Please refer to this document if you have lost your winter break page. You are working on items 1, 2, and 3, due Monday 1/4/10. That is, all of section 1 of the project, but not sections 2 and 3.

Homework for tonight: Read chapter 20. There will be a brief reading quiz tomorrow on this chapter!

Week of 12/7-12/11

We are reading our novel Things Fall Apart in and out of class this week. Here is the reading schedule. Chapters that are assigned for homework MUST be read because there will be reading quizzes EVERY DAY!

Monday: ch 10 in class, ch 11 for homework
Tuesday: ch 12 in class, ch 13 for homework
Wednesday: ch 14 in class, ch 15 for homework
Thursday: ch 16 in class, ch 17 for homework
Friday: ch 18 in class, ch 19 for homework

If you did not bring a book slip back and therefore do not have a book yet, you need to be staying after school with me to read!

Hello students,

By this point you should have turned in your chapter 1-5 tracking sheets. Over the weekend, 2nd and 5th blocks need to be reading chapters 8 and 9. Block 1, since we did not have class today, you should read chapters 6 and 7.

In light of the holiday, I have decided to extend the homework--chapters 1-5 trackers due Wednesday!

Happy Thanksgiving! Your homework is to read chapters 3-5 of our novel Things Fall Apart and do the chapter tracking worksheets (with the summaries and questions on them.) Please email me with questions or concerns!

I am still waiting on a lot of book slips! You will fall behind on your weekend homework if you do not have a book slip tomorrow.

Monday 11/16

Your only homework is to do what you need to do for your project presentation, which is Wednesday! Email me with questions or concerns. Remember, each group needs something to put in the presentation (poster, PowerPoint, skit, etc.)

Friday 11/13

Students should do any work their group has decided on for the weekend for their Africa background research project. The notes page is due Monday at the end of class and the presentations are Wednesday. For individual project concerns, please email me directly.

Tuesday 11/10

5th block only: Write three predictions about unit 2. Also, finish any assessments you did not finish in class (unit 2 pre-assessment, bridge week post-assessment.) If I do not get these assessments, you will not get a grade.

All blocks: Begin any responsibilities you have for your group project.

Parents: Students will be working on a group project in class this week. It is about African culture. If they stay on task in class, they should not have to work on it at home, but they may have things they wish to or need to work on in conjunction with the project. I will contact you if your student or his/her group is not completing the project in class. By Monday, they will need to be done with a notes sheet about their assigned topic (ask your student what his/her topic is) and on Wednesday they will be presenting their projects to the class.

Homework for tonight: Bridge Week Exit Assessment #2. You received this paper at the end of class today.

Remember tomorrow (Friday) is the cut-off for this week's late homework, which is only the behavior expectations for when a substitute is here.

Tuesday 11/3

Due tomorrow:
Write a list of expectations you should be meeting when there is a substitute teacher, in terms of behavior or work ethic. Then reflect on which of these expectations you met with yesterday's substitute.

This will be a graded assignment! Let's start off those 2nd quarter homework averages right!

1) Study for your interim exam! This is a test grade. Focus on figurative language and author's purpose.
2) Bring all materials for your survival portfolio on Friday in order to type them. Survival portfolio due Monday 10/26!

Have a friend or parent read over your survivor biography (peer editing!) Bring it back, edited, tomorrow to hand in.

Friday 10/16

For Monday you need to write a draft of your biography of Erika Eckstut, the Holocaust survivor that we heard yesterday.

Thursday 10/8

Tomorrow is your last chance to ask questions face-to-face before your summer reading project is due on Tuesday! Bring any specific questions with you.
Also bring your poetry analysis paragraphs to work on during class tomorrow. If you are done, you will have other aspects of the project to work on.

Wednesday 10/7

Your only homework is to continue writing and revising your four analysis paragraphs as well as work on your summer reading project!

Remember, summer reading project is due 10/13!!! That's Tuesday after the long weekend!!!

Tonight's homework is to catch up with the analysis paragraphs that were due today, or, if you actually did your homework on time (thank you to those few people!), spend tonight revising your work based on the tips we got in class today.
